The research process

Research is an adventure.  Even with a map in hand you should expect to encounter confusing signs, blocked paths, detours, and delays.  But having a research plan, no matter how basic, is better than having no plan at all.

As an iterative process research should include moments for you to reflect on your progress and to make the necessary course adjustments that will enable you to reach your research objective. However, it is very important to start early and to begin with a plan.

Research is sometimes frustrating but the rewards for your hard work and perserverance are immeasurable. The image below illustrates the most basic steps in the research process.
