The Leeward Community College Library and the Language Arts Division have collaborated on a program to teach information literacy skills to students enrolled in the ENG 22, 24, 98B and ENG 100 courses. Students in these courses are required to study an online tutorial and then take an exam to assess their knowledge and skills.
One of the Leeward Community College Library core missions is to teach students how to find, evaluate, and use information - not just to complete class assignments, but also to help students make informed decisions throughout their careers and lives. Our ultimate goal is to help you acquire the skills needed to compete in a global information society that is rapidly changing. Information seeking skills are part of the critical thinking skills that will help students meet changes and challenges in their personal lives and workplace with confidence.

The library's online information literacy courses teach basic research skills to students in English 24/98B and English 100 classes. Students first read through online lessons and perform practice exercises.
After studying the tutorial, students take an online exam through Laulima, the University of Hawaiʻi's online course system. Students who are required to take an exam will automatically have the exam module in their Laulima account.
The questions are multiple choice, and some of the questions on the English 100 exam involve performing actual searches in the library's online catalog and research databases to find the correct answer.
Individual instructors have their own policies on how your score affects your course grade. Instructors also set their own deadlines for passing the exam.
