Research is an adventure. Even with a map in hand you should expect to encounter confusing signs, blocked paths, detours, and delays. But having a research plan, no matter how basic, is better than having no plan at all.
As an iterative process research should include moments for you to reflect on your progress and to make the necessary course adjustments that will enable you to reach your research objective. However, it is very important to start early and to begin with a plan.
Research is sometimes frustrating but the rewards for your hard work and perseverance are immeasurable. The image below illustrates the most basic steps in the research process.
Locate credible sources on your research topic. These sources will become the foundation for your research paper. A good paper needs good sources.

With a topic or research question in mind you are ready to begin looking for the sources which will support your ideas and arguments. But what exactly should you be looking for and where do you go?
Information is available in many different forms and types. You need to decide which ones are best suited for your research needs. Keep in mind that using a variety of information types in your research is always the best way to go.
