You may consult dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases and almanacs for quick reference about the meaning of a word or for a basic introduction to a topic you are unfamiliar with. As a Leeward CC student, faculty or staff member you have access to several dictionaries and encyclopedias both in print and online.

Most print books included throughout the guide are located in Leeward CC library Reference Collection and are for library use only. Our Reference Collection is located on the upper floor of the library, between the Hawaiian Pacific and the Periodicals collections. You will also find some reference materials housed in our General collection. Books from our General collection may be checked out for 28 days. For your convenience, the location of the books featured on this guide appears next to the call number of each featured book.
With regard to online materials, most of the online resources featured on this guide are only available to Leeward CC students, faculty and staff and thus require a UH login and password for off campus access. However, this guide also features some online resources that are available to everyone.
To find basic information about almost any topic you may consult an encyclopedia. Our library provides online access to some encyclopedias. Click on the "Research Databases" button on our library's homepage to find online encyclopedias by scrolling down our "Complete list of library databases" drop down menu.
