Why Use the Library's Databases?

The Leeward CC Library's Online Research Databases page is the place to go when you want to find good-quality information from credible sources.  Using our databases for your research enables you to find articles from thousands of popular magazines, scholarly journals, and newspapers.  Most of this information cannot be accessed using Google or other search engines.  These are subscription-only databases which are made available to Leeward CC students only.

EBSCOhost Databases

EBSCOhost is a suite of databases which allow you to find articles from thousands of newspapers, magazines and journals.  Academic Search Premier is the primary multi-disciplinary EBSCO database but there are 20 additional databases to choose from.  These additional databases allow you to search within specialized subject areas.  You can select several databases and conduct a single search which increases the power of your searching.  A general rule of thumb is to keep Academic Search Premier as one of your selected databases at all times.

  • Academic Search Premier - Multi-disciplinary database with over 4,600 journals
  • Newspaper Source Plus - Over 800 newspapers plus television and radio transcripts
  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection - 400 journals psychology journals
  • Consumer Health Complete - Consumer-oriented health resource
  • Health Source Consumer Edition - Full-text of over 80 consumer health publications
  • Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition - Over 500 medical and nursing journals
  • MEDLINE - Most authoritative index of medical literature.  Compiled by the National Library of Medicine
